IES Releases Free Foam Proportioning App for Industrial Firefighters Worldwide

Baton Rouge, Louisiana –  March 11, 2013  – Industrial Emergency Services, LLC (“IES”) ( announced this week that it has released the IES Foam/Friction Loss Calculator smartphone application for iPhone. The app provides both a Tank Fire Fighting Foam Calculator and a Friction Loss Calculator that can be used by fire fighters globally. The app is initially available in the Apple App Store (best found by searching “IES Foam”) and will be available for Android soon. Both versions are available for free.

IES Vice-President Alan Hunsberger stated “Our customers count on IES to protect billions of dollars worth of assets. Any investments we can make in enhancing our speed and effectiveness of response when we are called into action is well worthwhile, whether we are addressing a significant petroleum storage tank fire, a pipeline rupture, or a refining, processing or manufacturing incident.”

Calculator Image“We developed the app because of the benefits that we and fellow fire fighters would realize by having this type of information always available and quickly and reliably calculated,” said IES Vice-President for West Coast and Marine, Tom Henning. “Manual calculations and charts are fine, but they are subject to human error.”

The app has been warmly received by IES emergency response professionals as well as by customers and industry colleagues. One early user, a Fire Protection & Compliance Manager for a major pipeline and terminal company commented, “I have forwarded the App information to a lot of my industrial peers and have had nothing but positive feedback! You have knocked one out of the park with this new App.” He went on to point out the increased speed and efficiency achieved using an app as the primary benefits to him and his organization.

A refinery fire chief in California who used the app commented, “A great tool for doing foam & friction calculations on the fly during a drill or exercise.”

IES is a leading provider of in-plant safety staffing, emergency preparedness planning and emergency response, plant turnaround safety support services, safety training, and pipeline safety services.
